Overseas Chinese Student Registration for the academic year 2021/2022 will be open from 13 October 2020 to 25 November 2020.

Application Procedure

1. Application Period

※ Online application: 13 October 2020 to 25 November 2020 5 P.M. (Taiwan time).

Late applications will NOT be processed.

Definition of Overseas Chinese Students

Overseas Chinese students are defined as follows:

  1. Those who meet the following qualifications and are limited to returning from overseas in the current year (excluding those who have already studied in high schools in Taiwan, the first-year graduates of Taiwanese universities, and those who have completed the Overseas Chinese Preparatory Department of Taiwan Normal University) can apply.

    • Overseas Chinese students: Chinese students who have been born overseas and have been continuously staying abroad until now, have stayed overseas continuously for more than six years, and have obtained permanent or long-term residence permits.

    • Hong Kong and Macau students: Hong Kong or Macau residents who have obtained permanent residence permits for Hong Kong and Macau and have recently stayed abroad for more than six years, and comply with Article 4 of the Hong Kong and Macau Relations Regulations.

    • Chinese students from Hong Kong and Macau with foreign nationality: "Chinese students with foreign nationality and permanent residency in Hong Kong or Macau, have not had a household registration in Taiwan, and have recently lived in Hong Kong, Macau or overseas for more than six years.", You can apply for admission in accordance with Article 23-1 of the "Measures for Returning Overseas Chinese to Study and Counsel"

  2. The term “overseas” mentioned in items (1) and (3) above refers to countries or regions other than the mainland, Hong Kong and Macau; the term “outsides” mentioned in item (2) refers to countries or regions other than Taiwan.

  3. The so-called "continuous residence" refers to "the period of stay in Taiwan shall not exceed 120 days per calendar year (January 1st to December 31st). The period is based on the application deadline of this brochure as the calculation base date. It is estimated to be 6 years. However, those who meet the requirements of the continuous residence period stipulated in this brochure until August 31, 2021, can also apply.

  4. According to Article 4 of the "Hong Kong-Macau Relations Regulations", the term "Hong Kong residents" refers to persons who have permanent residence in Hong Kong and do not hold a British National (Overseas) passport or travel documents other than Hong Kong passports; the term "Macao residents" refers to Those who have permanent residence in Macau and do not hold a travel document other than a Macau passport or hold a Portuguese passport but obtained it in Macau before the end of Portuguese governance. Those Chinese students who do not meet the aforementioned requirements, but "have foreign nationality, have both Hong Kong or Macau permanent residence qualifications, have not had a household registration in Taiwan, and have recently resided in Hong Kong, Macau or overseas for more than six years." "Methods for Returning to China for Education and Counseling" Article 23-1 apply for admission.

  5. For continuous residence and exclusion requirements, overseas students please refer to Articles 3 and 4 of the "Measures for Overseas Chinese Returning to Study and Counseling"; Hong Kong and Macau students please refer to Articles 3 and 4 of the "Measures for Hong Kong and Macao Residents to Study in Taiwan". Please attach the supporting documents and submit them at the time of registration to facilitate the review.

  6. Obtain a permanent or long-term residence certificate in the place of overseas residence, and be able to obtain the citizenship and permanent residence right of the place of overseas residence, or be recognized as an overseas residence with the signature of the Republic of China passport.

  7. The identification of overseas Chinese students is done by the competent authority of overseas Chinese affairs; the identification of Hong Kong and Macau students is done by the Ministry of Education.

  8. After studying in Taiwan, overseas Chinese and Hong Kong and Macao students who drop out of school or lose their student status and return to their overseas residence and have stayed in Taiwan for less than one year may reapply to return to their home country for school, and the limit is one time, and please make sure to attach it when registering The supporting documents shall be submitted with the application form. However, students who have been admitted to the school for failing conduct or have been sentenced to drop out due to a criminal case are not allowed to apply. If the violation of this rule is verified, the enrollment qualification will be revoked or the student will be expelled.

  9. Those who have been registered in Taiwan's colleges and universities (including the Advanced Overseas Chinese Department of National Taiwan Normal University; hereinafter referred to as the Overseas Chinese Advanced Department of Taiwan Normal University) are not allowed to apply again.

  10. Except as otherwise provided by other laws and regulations, overseas Chinese and Hong Kong and Macao students are not allowed to change their status arbitrarily during their return to school.

  11. If you meet the qualifications of foreign students and overseas students at the same time, please choose one to apply for admission. Once you apply, you will not be allowed change of identity.

  12. The enrollment target of this item does not include undocumented overseas Chinese graduates from Myanmar and Northern Thailand.
